MARBLED DUCK

Scientific name: Marmaronetta angustirostris
Piority species listed in Annex 1 of Birds Directive 2009/147/EC

In the project’s target area breeding of this species occurs regularly since 2005 with a number of pairs ranging from 1 to 3. This population basically counts for the entire Italian population. All over Europe latest estimate is of 25-120 breeding pairs (BirdLife International 2015).

Target area is mainly used by this species for breeding, even though since 2012 a few wintering specimens (2 to 6) have been regularly recorded. This circumstance envisages the real possibility that a colonization process is already happening in the area
