One of the target species of the project, Bittern occurs regularly in Pantani Cuba and Longarini area during winter period to early sping, even though with a few individuals. Year 2021 seems to be bringing good news about this species, since for the first time in the area 2 specimens have been recorded together; they have also shown some aggressive behaviour as of territory defense, unprecedented in the area. Even though actions planned in the project to increase suitable areas surface available for this species to winter have not kicked in, yet, apparently just the fact to be among the target species has attracted these birds in the area in higher numbers than ever in the past!
